Golf course scenes
We left the home of Louise Gallagher (Pat’s cousin) in Rocky River, Ohio at 8:00 PM. We drove 186 miles to Angola, Indiana, arriving at Lake James Golf Course at 11:00AM. Our route from Rocky River to Angola was a straight shot via I90, the Ohio and Indiana Turnpikes.

En route Jim talked via the cell phone to Frank Beckman of WJR Detroit (Frank Beckman Show, 9:00AM to 11:00AM). We were on the show three weeks ago during the early stages of the trip and our conversation today was an update of our progress.

We were pleasantly surprised that the course was wide-open when we arrived, so we were able to play our 18-hole round (with a cart) in less than three hours. The course has a sprinkling system, so the fairways and greens were in good shape. The course seemed extremely long and had some very difficult holes. Of course, this was our 25th consecutive day of hot weather, and we are both being tested by the heat. The weather forecast is for cooler temperatures beginning tomorrow in Michigan and for our continuing trip to the west. We are looking forward to the cooler days.

In spite of the heat we enjoyed the course and its layout. We would like to thank Matt and Rich for their courtesy and hospitality.

We left the course at 3:30 PM heading north on I69. We stopped in Lansing for a short while to visit Jim’s sister, Betty, then headed home to Hudsonville (Grand Rapids) arriving at 6:30 PM. It will be good to spend the next day and a half at home.
