Scenes from the golf course
The weather report looked very bad for Monday (9/19). A front extended from the Dakotas all the way down through Missouri. Storms were supposed to develop Sunday evening and carry over to all day Monday. It appeared that we would have great difficulty in playing our scheduled Monday round at Valley View Country Club in Sisseton, South Dakota. Our plan was to drive Sunday PM after Nebraska golf to Sisseton and play Valley View on Monday morning; however, the weather looked bleak for Monday. Because of this, we decided to play the first course we saw in South Dakota on Sunday afternoon. Believe it or not, the very first exit in South Dakota had a sign advertising Two Rivers Country Club in Dakota Dunes, SD. Actually, the course was immediately adjacent to I29. It appeared to be a nice course, the fees were reasonable, and there was an open tee time so we decided to play it. They were having a tournament so we had to play the back nine first. We were both concerned whether we could play 36 holes in one day, but we held up quite well (neither of us had played 36 holes in a single day for at least 10 years). Actually, being out in the bright sun for seven hours was probably more taxing than the physical exertion.

The course as very nice, and we’re glad that we stopped. The fairways were well watered and the greens were excellent. The 18th hole (which was our 9th hole, since we played the back nine first) was our 549th hole of the trip. This was exactly the halfway point of the sojourn (see picture of Pat taking the final half-way point shot). The first hole was the first shot of the second half (see picture of Jim). We both played reasonably well considering it was our second round of the day. Jim shot 89 (yardage = 6010) and Pat shot 107 (yardage = 5224).

We wish to thank the assistant professional Bob Wacker for finding room for us to play since the course was almost full due to the tournament.

We finished play at 6:00 PM and then drove north on I29 to Brookings, South Dakota where we spent the night at a Super 8 Motel. Tomorrow the rain should have passed by and we will play Two Rivers Golf Club in Hallock, Minnesota (20 miles south of the Canadian border).
