We arrived at the home of Dom and Ruth Alfano about 8:00PM on Sunday , quite tired after eight hours of driving and 18 holes of golf. We retired early, but were awake at 7:00AM even though we had a 10:00AM tee time at Bootleg Gap Golf Club. The sky was clear, but the air a bit chilly; however, by noon it was quite warm. We were pleased that Dom and John Scanland, Ruth’s 88-year old father, decided to join us for the round of golf (John Scanland is the husband of Marion Healey Scanland, a first cousin of Jim’s dad, Russell Healey). Dom had recently had 2 new shoulders, and this was his 1st 18-hole round of golf since the operation. He shot a 93, which is quite commendable. John did very well, even making a few bogies now and then. After 14 holes of decent golf he quit playing and just rode along enjoying the scenery.

Bootleg Gap opened in 2002, so it is almost a brand new golf facility. It is in excellent condition and we really enjoyed our round of golf. Each hole afforded spectacular views of the mountains and the valley; some of the most beautiful we have seen so far. Most of the holes on the front nine are located on plateau, and the back nine holes are in the valley along the river. There were many deer wandering around the golf course. They seemed to be fearless and oblivious to the golfers. Jim shot 91 (yardage = 6430) and Pat shot 106 (yardage = 5988). We want to thank the staff at Bootleg for their friendly well wishes for our continued success on our trip.

After golf we went back to Ruth and Dom’s home where Ruth and Marion (her mother) had prepared a delicious dinner of beef roast, vegetables, potatoes and lemon meringue pie for dessert. The Scanlands left for home before dark and the four of us played cards (a game called 18 holes of golf) for a few hours before retiring for the night. It was so nice seeing John and Marion Scanland again, as well as Ruth and Dom. We want to thank them for their gracious hospitality.

British Columbia was our 10th and final province. Tomorrow we head back to the States and play Idaho to start the final 23 days of our trip.
