Prior to leaving Canada we stopped in Creston for Brunch at the Garden Bakery where we met Alice Healey Johnson, her husband Walter, Darlene and Don Komer and Iva Johnson. Alice is a first cousin of Jim’s dad, Russell Healey. Darlene is a daughter of Alice and Walter, and Iva is married to a son of Alice and Walter. It was very nice to spend an hour with members of the Healey family. As stated in a previous journal, Jim has many Healey relatives from Winnipeg to Vancouver. We were fortunate to be able to visit with many of them and to stay overnight with four of them in their homes (total 7 nights).
Upon leaving Canada just seven miles south of Creston, our golf in the 10 Provinces of Canada was complete. We enjoyed every minute of it. We now have 22 states to go to complete the CanAmAthon!
We arrived at Mirror Lake Golf Course at 1:00PM and were able to tee off immediately. The course is a nine-hole facility with two sets of tees for both men and ladies. The first time around one set of tees was played and the second time around we played the 2nd set of tees. The course is very pretty in a mountain setting with rolling fairways and greens. The course is in good condition and was fun to play. Some of the par 4s were quite long and there were no “gimmie” par 3s. Jim shot 93 (yardage = 5919) and Pat shot 117 (yardage = 5256). Today Pat had a lot of trouble putting, and three putted many of the holes, thus the high score. We would like to thank Ralph Lotspeich, the PGA golf professional/manager, and Dick Odmark, the golf shop attendant for the hospitality and courtesy during our short stay at the course.
After golf we continued south on US95 for about 100 miles to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, arriving at 7:00PM where we spent the night at a Super 8 motel. Prior to retiring we worked for two hours catching up on our daily journals for the WEB site. We composed and transmitted both Alberta and British Columbia. Hopefully, by tomorrow night we will be caught up with the completion of Idaho and Washington. We are still behind in our responses to emails, and as we stated previously, most responses will have to wait until we arrive home at the end of our trip.
