Today begins our travels to northeast United States and the six eastern Canadian provinces. The next eleven nights we will be staying in motels except for Monday, August 29th, when we will be returning on the midnight ocean ferry from Newfoundland to Nova Scotia (we have reserved sleeping berths on the 6-hour ferry trip). After the eleven nights, we will be staying with friends and relatives for 21 of the next 25 nights (all the way to British Columbia, Canada). We awoke at 6:30 this morning and had an excellent breakfast at the home of Pat’s cousin (Louise Gallagher), and were on our way by 7:15 AM. We got on I90 right near Louise’s house in Rocky River and took it all the way to Terry Hills Golf Course in Batavia, NY. This 200 mile drive took us through Cleveland, Erie and Buffalo. We arrived at the golf course at about 11:45, which was an hour prior to our scheduled tee time of 12:48 PM. The starter, Ed Spencer was very obliging to give us an earlier starting time, and he paired us with a couple from Orchard Park, NY (near Buffalo) for a 12:10 tee time. Prior to our tee time, we went into the pro shop to meet Tom Brown and his staff. They were all very cordial and welcomed us to Terry Hills. In fact, everyone that we came in contact with treated us royally. We had a very enjoyable round of golf with Wayne and Cindy Kastner, the couple who were paired up with us. We felt very fortunate to meet such a fine couple who seem to love the game as much as we do. After golf we joined them for a delicious dinner in the dining room. We are very grateful to Danielle Rotondo(the daughter of the owners of Terry Hills), who searched us out on the golf course to invite us to dinner as guests of Terry Hills. Thanks, Danielle. The golf course was really enjoyable to play, both from an aesthetic and playability point of view. The greens were quite fast and undulating, which caused all of us to 3-putt from time to time, but that’s golf! The weather was perfect, with blue skies, a slight breeze and temperatures in the 70s. We made some new friends in the Kastners, and we would say that the 5th day of our sojourn was a great success. Several people have asked us to include our scores. Jim’s goal is to break 90, and Pat’s is to break 110.
