We just found out that she has been in the hospital for five days, but we are elated that she will be back in school by the time this appears on the web site. We had a very satisfying breakfast at the Shreveport/Bossier City, LA Comfort Inn before we left for Arcadia and Trails End Golf Course. We called last night and were told that we really didn’t need a tee time for Monday morning. We arrived at the golf course around 10:30AM and there were only a few groups out ahead of us, and they were far enough ahead of us that we never caught them. We really didn’t know what to expect as we were driving to the course, because it is located on the outskirts of the small town of Arcadia and we drove through some country roads before we got to it. We soon found out that Trails End Golf Course is “a diamond in the rough”. Every hole gives the golfer a different type of shot to perform. There is water through the middle of several fairways, or in front of the green on several of the holes. Some of the holes are lined with Pine trees and shots have to be accurate. The signature hole #9 has a green shaped like the state of Louisiana. Jim shot 89 (yardage = 6372) and Pat shot 104 (yardage = 5065). David Pickett, the golf professional, is also the director of the recreation complex of which Trails End Golf Course is a part. David gave us a bit of history of the golf course, as well as the area as a whole. The golf shop attendant, Febbie Lonidier and the office secretary, Sharon Monroe, were both very friendly and interesting to talk with. We want to thank them for making us feel “at home” at Trails End. We would recommend this course to anyone who is traveling in the area. They would find it a most enjoyable round of golf, as we did. Another interesting story we were told about this area is that “Bonnie and Clyde”, the famous bank robbers finally met their end here in Arcadia when they were gunned down in an ambush by the FBI. After leaving Trails End Golf Course we drove on US 20 through Louisiana and across the Mississippi River at Vicksburg. We stopped at the Mississippi Welcome Center after we crossed the river and took a walk around some of the historic Civil War areas. We drove on to Jackson., MS where we’ll be spending the night at the Sleep Inn.
