After a good nights sleep and a filling breakfast, we, along with Lisa and Brett, who decided to join us today, left for North Stone Country Club.
North Stone designed by P.B. Dye was the site of the 2002 US Open qualifying which told us that this was not going to be an easy course for first-time play. The course is situated on rolling terrain that winds around many beautiful homes. The course is in great shape and has many awesome holes. Many shots have to be placed “just right” to avoid water hazards. There are also several elevated greens as well as a few tiered greens. In spite of the difficulty of the course, we all enjoyed playing there. Jim shot 93 (yardage = 6096), Pat shot 119 (yardage = 5107) and Lisa beat us all, shooting an 88! On the par 3 7th hole she was within 6 inches of having a Hole-In-One! And, yes, she made the birdie putt! Both Lisa and Jim had 2 birdies for the round. We would like to thank the two assistant golf professionals Jared Patton and Matt Gatewood who were very cordial and friendly. We also found the rangers on the course most helpful. Unfortunately, we did not get their names or pictures, but we appreciate their help in locating lost balls and giving us tips about some of the holes. We wish to thank Ken Kapcia for his assistance in working with Courtney Ford in arranging our tee times and complementary green and cart fees. Ken is an employee of Handicomp (Healey family business) and a friend of Courtney. We also want to thank Sara and Brett for their hospitality and help with golf course arrangements in North and South Carolina. It also was fun spending time with their two daughters, Sydney and Kate who entertained us with their songs and plays. We left Charlotte around 4:00PM, as we wanted to get to Knoxville, Tennessee tonight. We have an 8:00AM tee time tomorrow morning for our 59th day of golf. We had 250 miles to cover before we reached our destination. We arrived at the motel in Knoxville at 8:30PM. |
