Scenery on golf course

More scenes from golf course
Today’s golf course, Newport Country Club in Newport, VT is situated in the Green Mountains and offered many spectacular views. We were able to tee off early at 8AM. The foursome ahead of us let us go through on the first hole, and it was clear sailing from then on. We finished 18-holes in just over 3 hours even though we stopped several times to enjoy the view and take some pictures. The White tees are 6237 yards with a course rating of 68.6/114 slope. Jim shot 93 today. The Red tees are 5258 yards with a course rating of 71.0/114 slope. Pat shot 110.

We were glad to be on the road by 11:30 because we wanted to be in Rimouski, Quebec (400 miles from Newport) before dark. This is one of our longest drives of the trip. Yesterday’s drive from Ontario took us through Montreal where we had numerous delays and traffic backups. We didn’t reach our Super 8 Motel until after dark. Today’s drive was mostly expressway and we arrived at the Comfort Inn in Rimouski by 6PM.

The last part of the drive gave us many beautiful scenic views of the St. Lawrence River. The highway parallels the river and is somewhat elevated and maybe a mile from the river. The grain fields with their shaded hues of gold stretch town to the river. The river is 25 to 30 miles across as it approaches Rimouski. On the far side of the river the Laurentian Mountains offer a beautiful backdrop to the river. The sun was behind us as it was late in the day, and this really enhanced the beauty. This was one of the most beautiful drives that we have ever taken.

We would like to thank Michael Santa Maria (PGA Professional) and his staff for their cordial welcome to us at Newport Country Club

The next 5 days we play courses in Quebec and the 4 Atlantic Provinces (Maritimes), New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, and Nova Scotia. We can only hope that the weather continues to be as great as it has been for our first 7 days.

One final note: Now that we have 7 days under our belt, we are gaining confidence that we can actually complete this odyssey.
